Mandarin games for ages 3-6
A starting-point guide for Mandarin-speaking and bilingual families. Choose by your child's comfort with the words and actions, not only their birthday.
Start with colors in MandarinA little place to start together
The collection has 10 game themes. Age ranges are references, not a readiness test or a promise that every child can play alone. Chinese Character Forest is listed separately for ages 4-6.
What feels familiar today?
- New to Mandarin prompts
- Start with Color Hunt in Beginner: red and yellow, with two choices. Sit together, replay the prompt and demonstrate once. Pointing is enough; reading Chinese and speaking aloud are not required.
- Understands simple color prompts
- Try Color Home Sort in Beginner. Show how to drag a friend to the same-color house, or tap the friend and then the house. Familiar words do not automatically mean familiar controls.
- Ready to explore another activity
- Use the library's age references and activity details to choose the next theme. Keep the words familiar when trying a new action, and step back when a task feels difficult.
Age is a reference, not a level
- Ages 3-4
- Begin together with a familiar color and a simple tap. Some activities are listed for ages 4-6; they are not automatic next steps for a three-year-old.
- Ages 5-6
- The same Color or Sort starting point may still be useful when Mandarin or the controls are new. More choices are optional, not a requirement for this age.
This guide does not save or upload your child's age. It does not create a child profile.
The current collection is not a complete programme for ages 7-9, nor a complete Mandarin course for all beginners.
Chinese Character Forest: ages 4-6
This is a separate character activity with Mandarin sounds and Chinese text, not an English character course. Begin with an adult who can explain the task. With no saved progress, the first lesson introduces 日 (sun), 月 (moon) and 山 (mountain); existing progress may suggest another lesson.
It does not use the other games' Beginner or round-count settings. Completing a lesson is not proof of mastery, and it is not a default activity for all children in the collection's age range.
Explore the character activityKeep the first activity manageable
- If a prompt is unfamiliar, replay it, point to the object and model one choice. Use real objects or take a break if that is easier.
- Check sound and round length before starting. Beginner selects the entry difficulty; it does not clear saved sound or question-count settings.
- Choose one activity, pause whenever needed and stop while your child is comfortable. Activity duration has not been measured; there is no required number of minutes.
Exiting a Mandarin game opens the game library in your saved site language, or Chinese if no language is saved.
